Talking About Wedding Planning

Hello everyone, I'm Selma Marshall. I would like to share my knowledge about wedding planning on this site. The wedding planning process often starts out slow with the selection of the decorations and venue. From there, the date seems to arrive faster and faster as the bride and groom pick their outfits to wear at the altar. Picking the outfits for the wedding party often proves even more difficult, especially when dealing with a number of different personalities and preferences. I would like to talk about ways to streamline the wedding planning process without upping stress levels. I hope you can use the information I provide to plan the wedding of your dreams.

3 Important Decisions To Make Before Applying For A Marriage License

by Diane Roux

When planning a wedding, one of the most straightforward tasks that you will need to complete is obtaining a marriage license. Consequently, far too many people feel the need to quickly go apply for their marriage license so that they can check this task off their to-do list. The problem with this is, there are actually a few important decisions that you will need to make before applying for your marriage license in order to ensure you do not need to obtain a new license before the wedding takes place. You can learn more about these three important decisions below.

Decision #1: When Will The Wedding Take Place

While you are not required to list an exact wedding date on your marriage license, you should be aware that this license will not remain valid forever. In fact, most jurisdictions will only provide a relatively short window for you to get married once the license has been issued. Consequently, you will want to decide on a wedding date before applying for your marriage license. More importantly, you will want to make sure that you do not obtain your license too early so that it will still be valid on the day of your wedding.

Decision #2: Where The Wedding Will Take Place

With more and more people choosing to host destination weddings, making a decision regarding the location of the wedding is more important than ever before. This is because each jurisdiction is only able to legally issue a marriage license for weddings that will take place in their jurisdiction. This means that if you plan to get married in another city, state, or even another country, you will need to obtain your marriage license in that jurisdiction rather than in the jurisdiction where you live. When making this decision it is also important to consider whether or not your marriage will be recognized by your local government. This is especially important for people choosing to get married abroad.

Decision #3: What Name Will You Use After The Wedding

When applying for a marriage license you will be asked to list the current names of both the bride and groom, as well as the names that the bride and groom intend to use once they are married. If you have yet to decide whether or not you want to change your name, you will need to make this decision before applying for your marriage license. While simply indicating your intent to change your name on your marriage license will not eliminate the need to report this name change to the DMV and Social Security Administration after your wedding, indicating your intent will allow you to legally begin using your new name once you are married.
